After countless times of serious frustration working animals both cattle and sheep I knew I was going to have to bite the bullet and spend serious money on a good animal handling system. The system is made out of heavy walled pipe with the end posts having 1/2” wall thickness. the vertical posts are all driven 4’ into the earth for maximum stability. The person I chose to do the work had made many cattle handling systems but this was his first one he ever built that handles both cattle and sheep. The system has seven distinct areas to hold animals for sorting. I can’t express just how easy this system has made my life and the life of my friend and neighbor who helps me to work the animals. We never worry about our safety or the safety of the animals. Below is a diagram of the system that is pretty close to the final design built except that the sheep chute is shifted all the way to the bottom right on the diagram. I am also including a rough bill of material for the job. To the right are pictures of the final painted system!
